Welcome to New Day Kitchen!
We are excited to announce that our new community outreach project in North Boulder called New Day Kitchen—an all-volunteer-staffed free meal service for anyone in need—is even more successful than we expected! Since launching the project in April of 2006, attendance has steadily grown. We currently serve an average of 60 hot, delicious (just ask our guests), nutritious meals each Wednesday evening, and provide a comfortable, safe, and fun environment where guests can bring their children and just enjoy socializing with other folks.
By the way, members of New Day Church also prepare meals for Carriage House www.bouldercarriagehouse.org in New Day Church's kitchen. More than 500 meals are prepared and frozen for use every week.
New Day Kitchen serves every Wednesday evening, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM and is located at:
New Day Covenant Church Fellowship Hall 2801 Jay Road (at 28th) North Boulder, Colorado Click here for directions (303) 909-4269
To find out more about New Day Kitchen, or to volunteer or make a donation, please contact Barbara Thomas at (303) 909-4269 or email her at barbara@newdayboulder.org.
We wish to help all people in need within our Boulder community, but are hoping to reach the underserved, those who fall between the cracks, i.e., the working-poor who do not qualify for government programs, yet struggle to feed their families and pay normal living expenses. It is our hope that serving this segment of our community will multiply into these people getting on their feet and then becoming passionate about helping others, which will strengthen our community and fruitfully demonstrate Christian love.
This Highly Efficiency Organization Maximizes the Benefits of Your Donations
New Day Kitchen is an ultra-efficient effort because all workers are volunteers, and the serving site and kitchen facilities are provided at no charge by New Day Covenant Church. The food is paid for by donations earmarked for New Day Kitchen. Contributions may be donated to "New Day Covenant Church" which is a tax-exempt 501(c) 3 organization.
This outreach also provides volunteers with a fruitful opportunity to serve and demonstrate Christian love to the glory of God.
“…let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
"You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God." (2 Corinthians 9:11)
Barbara Thomas, New Day Kitchen coordinator and Head Chef of New Day Kitchen—a graduate of the California Culinary Academy—reported that total meal costs have averaged $1.70 per meal for the past three months (August through October of 2006). That's the entire cost of serving a delicious hot meal, including all ingredients, preparation, facilities... absolutely everything, so your donations have been stretched to the maximum in making a difference in people's lives.
This incredibly low cost means that you can feed 58 poor and disadvantaged people in our community with just a $100 donation!
Barbara also brings to us five years experience as the Executive Director of Open Heart Kitchen, another all-volunteer meal service feeding the needy in the San Francisco Bay area. For more information about Open Heart Kitchen, which continues to serve over 100,000 meals per year, please visit www.openheartkitchen.org.
